The general subtropical climate felt in the country is greatly influenced by the absence of nearby mountains. Enjoy the weather and roam around the country with the destination of your choice. The Montevideo, Uruguay’s capital houses numerous interesting attractions that might capture your heart. The Ciudad Vieja, an old town will hypnotize you as you enter the Puerta de la Ciudad at one end of Plaza de Independencia, a square at the end of the main commercial artery of the city. To better understand the culture of the country you might one to see the Mausoleo de Artigas, a large monument in the Plaza de Independencia that pays tribute to Jose Gervasio Artigas, one of the known heroes in Uraguay. For history lovers, the National History Museum is a good place for you. On the other hand, the MAPI, also a Museum showcases indigenous art and Uruguayan archeology. During the last Saturday of September, all the museums and historical places of interest around the Plaza are open for free to the public.

Other major cities of interest are Chuy, Colonia (a well preserved old colonial town and UNESCO World Heritage Site), Durazano, La Paloma, Paysandu, and Salto. Aside from the major cities, the major attractions in the country are the adoring beaches of Uruguay. The most popular of which is Punta Del Diablo. Enjoy surfing, horseback riding along the beach, or try dune boarding (snowboarding on sand dunes). Other popular beaches are Fortaleza de Santa Teresa and Cabo Polonio. For a peaceful and nature appreciation moments, try bird watching in Rocha touristic “estancias” and enjoy a peaceful moment while in Uruguay.
