Named after the extremely rare species of Torreya tree, the
Torreya State Park, is officially designated as a part of Florida’ s Statewide
Greenways and Trail System. Torreya tress occurs only along the bluffs of
Apalachicola where you can see a magnificent view of Sunshine in Florida.
The
ecology of the park is composed of swamp, hardwood hammocks and high
pinelands enriched with interesting floras and faunas that are truly
amazing. Plant life along the river gives an amazing display of color
especially during the fall season. Different activities can be enjoyed in the
park and this includes hiking, camping, picnicking and guided tours in the
restored Gregory House, a fully furnished plantation home built in 1849.
The
Apalachicola River Bluffs Trail offers an amazing view of the river. The
Weeping Ridge on the other hand will expose you to one of the park’s deep
ravines. Either of the two trails will give hikers a refreshing encounter with
Torreya’s nature. Primitive campsites that are present in the area will allow
you to enjoy nature’s Company with minimal interventions. For the guided tours

avoid any unwanted event.
The
flora present in the park shows different endangered species like the
Few-flowered croomia, feathery false lily of the valley, Canadian honewort and
bloodroot. Also, the presence of the enormous tress gives a
magnificent display of colors during different seasons most especially during
the fall. Numerous animals can be found in the park and that includes
deer, beaver, bobcat, grey fox, Barbours map turtle, Eastern Hognose Snake, gopher tortoises, and the rare Apalachicola dusky
salamander. Truly, the mixture of nature in the area provides the

visit the park, from Interstate10, west of Quincy, just
take the Exit 174 to SR 12. Drive along CR 271 until you reach the park. From
there on, enjoy the experience at Torreya State Park and allow yourself to have
a stress-free day as you enjoy a peaceful day with nature.
