For almost 240 years,Pensacola has been under the Spanish rule.  It is also considered as the first European settlement of the United states. The first settlers of Pensacola was led by Don Tristan de Luna y Arellano who arrived at the coast on August 15,1559. However, weeks later after 1400 men in 11 ships had arrived, the colony was struck by hurricane.  Hundreds of men killed and 5 of the ships were sank.  The survivors scattered and relocated but since the food supplies were ruined during the storm,  many of them died of starvation. On the other hand those who survived hunger also died due to attacks from the native Indians.  The other survivors sailed to South Carolina but were hit by another storm and scattered in cuba.  Those 50 remaining settlers were taken back to Mexico.  After the tragic incident the viceroy of Spain declared that Florida is too dangerous for settlers.  It was not until after 150 years later before they came back to the place.

Four other countries colonized pensacola, namely Great Britain, France, Confederates of America, and United States of America.  Due to this, Pensacola is known as "The City of FiveFlags."  Some other names Pensacola is known for is Redneck Rivera, Emerald Coast, and The World's Whitest beaches.

Hiking and Camping on the historical trails

Fort Pickens was built to defend Pensacola Bay in florida.  The fort was built in the age of wooden warships and cannons that make use of round balls.  However, the fort has already undergone changes due to some threats, which just made it more interesting for hikers and campers who are curious on how the military bases look like in the past. This old civil war fort has campground that welcomes those who would like to experience the atmosphere of the historical military site. But for those who are not willing to stay for the camp, there are trails that would satisfy the travellers thirst for nature's embrace.

Aside from this historical place, there are also  three military bases in Pensacola,Florida - NAS Pensacola, Corry Station, and Saufley field. The naval museum of  NAS Pensacola is a well-known attraction when it comes to jets and fighters from different areas. Pensacola is also a home of the Blue Angels, which can be seen practising several times throughout the year.
