Historical Kumano
Kumano
is among the thousands of islands in Japan. The place boosts with historical
background, amazing sceneries and outstand culture. The Kumano area is located
in the southern tip of the Kii Peninsula just about 100 km south of Osaka. Kumano
has become popular for its Attractions and religious sites.
Kumano
Sanzan, is the collective term for the three different shrines in Kumano namely
Hongu Taisha, Nachi Taisha and Hayatama Taisha. Religious historical
backgrounds have made the Kumano Sanzan a famous Pilgrim route. People usually
walk via trail called Kumano Kodo. Kumano is also referred to as the “Land of
the Dead”, following the belief that the Shinto spirits and family ancestors
dwell here after their death. Last 2004, the religious treasures ans the
pilgrimage route were included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. This was
named “The Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage routes in the Kii Mountain Range”.
Kumano
also houses hot springs (“Onsen” in Japanese) such as Shrirahama, Katsura,
Yunomine, and Wataze; and amazing coastal sceneries at Kumano City and
