of the Gulf Islands National Seashore
The
Gulf Islands National Seashore stretches 160 miles Cat Island in Mississippi to
the eastern tip of Santa Rosa Island in Florida. This seashore showcases
magnificent beaches filled with white sand and amazingly sparkling blue
waters. Aside from the overwhelming view
of the ocean you are also entitled to the historical places around the Gulf
Islands and to the numerous activities that you will surely remember for years.
Some
of the places with historical interests in Florida are Fort Pickens, Fort
Barrancas, and the ruins of Fort McRee. These places were all important during
the Civil War. The authorization of the Gulf Islands National Seashore on
January 8, 1971 with the purpose of protecting the forest and all
government-owned islands nearby started way back in the 1970’s when the U.S.
government reasserted its right to the forest in court after Florida attempted
to sell the land to private citizens. Then on 1978, Mississippi islands were
added to the park. For history buffs, this place will surely fill you up with
what you are looking for and the sight that you’ll see is definitely a huge
bonus.

most visitors come here to enjoy picnics, camping, hiking, cycling, boating,

Sharks are also present in the nearby Gulf so never attempt to swim at dusk
